KYL awarded Dollar General literacy grant

$500 grant to support family reading program

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Kendall Young Library a $500 grant to support literacy. This local grant award is part of more than $8.3 million in grants awarded to more than 1,000 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 44 states that Dollar General serves.

Kendall Young Library is hosting “Families Reading Together” from June 1-Aug. 31. It is a wonderful way to help your children develop a love of reading and improve their reading comprehensions over the summer., according to Ketta Lubberstedt-Arges, library director. Families will be asked to read together for a chance to win fun prizes. A drawing will be held for a grand prize of either a one-year family membership or $100 gift card to Fort Frenzy, and other fun prizes. A Family Read Night is also being planned where the library will be giving away free books.

Including this grant, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has provided more than $154 million in funding to help more than 10 million people. We believe these programs can have a positive impact on the communities we serve and we look forward to continuing to partner with organizations dedicated to making a difference in the lives of millions of Americans.”
