With January approaching in the next month, locals are starting to think about resolutions. Not sure where to start with yours? Visit the fifth annual Fuller Hall Health Fair on Saturday, Jan. 13.

The Fuller Hall Recreation Center will be offering their 5th Annual Health Fair/Free Fitness Day on Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“It kind of goes back to when we first started,” Recreation and Public Grounds Director Kent Harfst said. We wanted to do something for people that is healthy and doesn’t cost any money.”

Along with vendors in the gymnasium, there will be a variety of activities for every age to enjoy.

Children will be able to swim for free from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the 13th, there is no cost for any building usage.

“If people haven’t been to Fuller Hall or they want to try it, they can use the weight room, cardio room, racquetball or swimming,” Harfst said.

Examples of items offered include (but not limited to): free fitness evaluation with a certified trainer; healthy cooking demonstrations/samples; use of the weight room, cardio room, and swimming pool; free demonstration by area massage therapists; kids fitness activities; medical professionals present to answer questions, and; various alternative medicine displays.

“A lot of it is healthy activities and fitness activities like yoga,” Harfst said. “Then there’s a lot of traditional health care organizations like the hospital or assisted living centers.”

The planning committee for this event is currently seeking health related individuals or businesses who want to display or demonstrate their products or services.

“Our goal is to have 25 or 30 vendors,” said Harfst. “We do really want to encourage any type of natural supplements or healing options.”

Angie Mason, Executive with NuSkin. Mason sells a variety of skin care and health products. She is one of the vendors who will be at the health fair this January.

Other vendors include Yoga instructor Mary Louise and Van Diest Medical Center.

“We’d really love to see more chiropractors and massage therapists because those are huge in the wellness spectrum,” said Harfst.

The health fair takes place shortly after the new year to help people work on their resolutions and create a positive and safe event for the community to learn more about how they can better themselves.

“To me, the new year always offers hope. Hope for people in terms of a better year – physically, mentally and emotionally,” Harfst said.

There is no cost to be a vendor. Those interested in displaying their goods and services at the fair can contact Harfst at (515) 832-9194 or email kent_harfst@webstercity.com.
