Project results in 36 traffic stops
Officials plan another event for September
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Iowa State Patrol, worked on a multi-agency enforcement project on Aug. 25 during the evening hours.
The project, sponsored by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, was conducted on U.S. Highway 20 at the Williams exit between 5 and 8:30 p.m. Thirty-six different traffic stops were made during the 3 ½ hour time frame. According to Sheriff Doug Timmons, the traffic stops resulted in numerous citations and warnings:
• 29 speed citations
• 7 speed warnings
• 6 other citations
• 2 other warnings
• 4 open container citations.
One motor vehicle accident was also investigated during the project. A single vehicle roll-over accident occurred on east bound Highway 20 also at the Williams exit.
A second multi-agency project is scheduled to occur in September 2017 with the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol. This will also be performed in the evening hours, according to Timmons.
