Health care town hall meeting set for WC

Organizers say Rep. Steve King is invited to attend to hear stories, concerns from constituents

A non-partisan community discussion on current health care issues and concerns has been set for Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Webster City Middle School beginning at 10 a.m.

The event, organized by MoveOn.org, is open to all citizens of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, has been invited to attend as Congress is in still in recess. Organizers said they hoped King would attend to hear personal testimonies from those present as well as video-taped and written stories. If King attends, organizers said they hoped to he would take questions from constituents present.

A letter was sent to King on Aug. 7 inviting him to the town hall meeting. The letter included a list of about 25 constituents who had requested he attend the event. So far, King has not indicated whether he will attend, according to Amanda Malaski, one of the event coordinators.

The town hall meeting and discussion will be held regardless of whether or not the Congressman attends, Malaski said. They stressed that the event is non-partisan and all constituents are invited to attend.
