Christian Adolfo Ordonez Benitez is first baby born at VDMC in 2017

He was born Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at 10:12 a.m. Christian got an assortment of gifts from Van Diest Medical Center and other local businesses.

Van Diest Medical Center welcomed the first baby of 2017 on Tuesday. Paola Marta Benitez Reyes, 25, and Rudy A. Ordonez Lopez, 22, of Webster City, are the parents of a baby boy, Christian Adolfo Ordonez Benitez, on Jan. 3, 2017 at 10:12 a.m. He weighed 6 lbs. and 6.3 oz. and was 19 inches long.

“We are so happy,” said Benitez Reyes. “We did not expect too have the first baby of the new year.”

This is the couple’s first child.

“We are happy that God gave us the opportunity to have a baby boy,” said Benitez Reyes.

Van Diest Medical Center and area businesses gave several gifts to the family. R Company gave a $35 gift certificate. Gilbert Jewelers gave an engraved charm with baby initial front and the date of birth on the back of the charm. The Flower Cart delivered a dozen roses. pHairytales gave a $25 gift certificate and bottle of HEMPZ lotion. A gift certificate for a free photo session was given by SAMS Photography. The Hospital Foundation gave a $100 cashier’s check. First State Bank gave a gift bag with $25 in Webster City Chamber Dollars, a teddy bear, and a U.S. minted quarter dollar. Fareway gave a box of Pampers diapers.

The OB Department and Auxiliary gave a Halo Sleep Sack and baby care items along with a handmade blanket.
