Rollover crash results in double fatality
Two people were killed in a vehicle roll-over that occurred near Webster City just before midnight Monday night at the U.S. Highway 20 westbound exit.
The 1998 Ford Explorer left the traveled portion of the roadway and apparently lost control on the exit ramp, rolling several times before coming to rest. The vehicle was occupied by six passengers. Shelly Coenen, a 22-year-old passenger from Tomah, Wisconsin, was ejected from the auto. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Richard Elmore, 19, of Hopkins, South Carolina, was transported to Van Diest Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Four other passengers were transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries. Breanna Leners, 16, of Sioux City, was taken by ground ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines with serious injuries. Meaghen Stiverson, 18, Sioux City, was taken by Life Flight air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Bret Seibold, 18, Sioux City, and a 13-year-old juvenile female, were transported to Van Diest Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The 13-year-old juvenile was found to be a runaway. She was released from the hospital and taken into custody by local authorities.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office,Webster City Police, Webster City Fire Department and Van Diest Medical Center.
