With brimming bowls of food being passed around tables and Christmas carols wafting through the air, more than 100 area residents shared a meal and fellowship Wednesday night.

The annual Webster City Christmas Dinner, now in its 37th year, offers a traditional turkey dinner to any who wish to attend. The meal is held in the social rooms at Asbury United Methodist Church, but volunteers from many faiths plan, organize, cook and serve the meal.

“We’ve had about 110 to 120 here tonight,”?said Pat Powers, the chairman of the annual event. Powers served as the master of ceremonies for the social hour and dinner.

“Everyone seems to be enjoying the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and all of the trimmings,”?he said.

Power said he is always grateful for the volunteers to give up part of their Christmas to help with the event.

“They are our waiters and waitresses and make sure everyone gets enough to eat,”?he said. “It’s really great that people are willing to donate their time on Christmas night.”

This year, organizers estimated that there were more than 100 volunteers involved in the dinner from start to finish.

“We’ve got some people providing music for the evening,”?he said. Adele Bowden played Christmas carols on the piano as those attending the meal dined. The Borer family performed and Von Ketelsen was also expected to provide entertainment.

People who were unable to attend the dinner, still could have a hot meal on Christmas night. Drivers delivered the turkey dinners all around the community to those who had registered.

Powers thanked all of the volunteers and all of those who made donations towards the dinner.
