Celebrating summertime

With summer in full swing, community members and visitors to Kamrar will bring in the season with the City’s eighth annual Summer Celebration on Sunday.

The Celebration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, hosted by the Kamrar Lions Club at the Lions building. The breakfast will go on until 9:30 a.m. Following the breakfast, a community wide church service will be held in the Lions Building at 10 a.m. A lunch will be held at 11 a.m. in the Kamrar Park Shelter, hosted by the Celebration committee.

A free car show will also be hosted during the Celebration from noon to 3 p.m., sponsored by Philbrook Auto and Howard’s Auto Body.

Kamrar city clerk Lori Isvik said the show, which will be held in the expanded parking lot by the city water tower, hosted more than 100 cars during last year’s Celebration. The show will also feature motorcycles, a DJ sponsored by NAPA and the Webster City True Value, 24 awards and free door prizes.

The car show will also feature an educational display from Operation Lifesaver. Isvik said the display is sponsored by several railroad companies, and will feature a car that was heavily damaged in an accident with a train. The display is a reminder to drive safetly and be aware when near railroad tracks.

A Kids Pedal tractor pull will be at 1 p.m. at East Side City Park on Elm Street. Sweet Treats Ice Cream will also be seved in the city park.

Isvik said the Celebration brought in between 400 and 600 people last year. While she couldn’t say exactly how many people turned out because people come and go during the day’s events, she said the Celebration offers a good time for all ages.

“When the weather is good, we get a large crowd here,” Isvik said. “It’s kind of a low-key event, but is usually a lot of fun. People come and stay in Kamrar, get out to the events, and really enjoy their time here.”
