Clear Lake program for 9/11 25th Anniversary Remembering 9/11

CLEAR LAKE, IOWA – Clear Lake Fire Department will hold a 9/11 service to remember the fallen from the 9/11/2001 at 6:00 p.m. at the Clear Lake Fire Station, 711 2nd Ave N, Clear Lake, Iowa.

This year's event will include a dedication of a bronzed fire fighter statue at the memorial at the Clear Lake Fire Station. This year's event will include Speaker Chief Richard Picciotto a FDNY Chief and Highest-Ranking Firefighter to Survive the World Trade Center Collapse.

Chief Richard Picciotto delivers a gripping, firsthand account of the day that altered history, underscoring the significance of courage, preparation and effective leadership when confronted with enormous adversity.

The FDNY battalion commander in lower Manhattan when it was the target of terrorist attacks on 9/11, Richard and his fellow firefighters selflessly rushed inside the World Trade Center towers to rescue those trapped inside. The highest-ranking firefighter to survive that day, he humbly reflects on his efforts and offers an insider's knowledge of how courage and training helped save numerous lives.

In captivating narratives that leave audiences on the edge of their seats, Richard recounts his experiences on that day and those following, revealing how he summoned lessons learned throughout his years as an accomplished leader to take on the most difficult tasks. Tactfully incorporating humor with valuable lessons on leadership, preparation and decision-making, Richard puts this defining historical event into perspective, while imparting valuable insights for business leaders to effectively lead teams through significant challenges and in crises.

After the service a parade of lighted fire trucks will be held around Clear Lake.

The Clear Lake Fire Department cordially invites the public and all first responders to a 9/11 remembrance service to honor the fallen from September 11, 2001. The service will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Clear Lake Fire Station, located at 711 2nd Ave N, Clear Lake, Iowa.

Event Highlights & Guest Speaker

Statue Dedication: The ceremony will feature the dedication of a new bronzed firefighter statue at the Clear Lake Fire Station memorial.

Keynote Address: Retired FDNY Chief Richard Picciotto, the highest-ranking firefighter to survive the collapse of the World Trade Center, will serve as the guest speaker. Chief Picciotto will deliver a firsthand account of leading rescue operations in lower Manhattan, sharing critical lessons on leadership, preparedness, and resilience during crisis.

Lighted Truck Parade: Immediately following the ceremony, a procession of lighted emergency vehicles will parade around Clear Lake.

Information for Visiting Departments & First Responders

First responders from across Iowa and out of state are invited to participate and bring a department vehicle for the event and parade.

Attending departments are requested to contact the Clear Lake Fire Department in advance to confirm participation and vehicle details.
