Cops and Bobbers fishing derby is Saturday

The Hamilton County Law Enforcement officers are sponsoring a Cops and Bobbers fishing event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

This will be held at the small beach shelter at Briggs Woods Park, located at 2490 Briggs Woods Trail.

The event is free and residents do not need a fishing license, since it is being held during the Iowa DNR free fishing weekend.

The program is designed for kids ages 3-14 years of age, but adults can fish with their kids. Prizes will be given only to kids between those ages.

The goals of this program are to get kids hooked on fishing, to show law enforcement in a positive and friendly manner, and to break down barriers, allowing law enforcement and citizens to trust each other.

As part of the program, they will teach fishing pole maintenance, fish identification, fishing regulations, water safety and other basic fishing instructions. Participants can bring their own fishing pole and bait. For more information contact Park Rangers Zach Wesselink at 515-297-0357 or Zane Schaffer at 515-297-0359 or Naturalist John Laird at 515-297-0423.

Starting at $3.46/week.
