Judges needed for Fair training in April
Horticulture Judging Workshop is being offered, April 15, 2026, from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Northern Research Farm, 310 S Main St, Kanawha, Iowa. Individuals wanting experience judging horticulture entries like vegetables, cut flowers, and houseplants are invited to attend an upcoming Horticulture Judging Workshop designed to provide comprehensive training on evaluating horticulture exhibits at county and state fairs.
The workshop will provide an overview of horticulture fair exhibits and detailed instruction on judging criteria used to evaluate entries. Participants will gain hands-on judging experience, learning how to apply standards consistently and fairly. The session will also cover practical information on how exhibitors can properly prepare horticulture entries for competition, showcasing quality and meeting fair guidelines.
In addition, the workshop will include case studies focused on positive and constructive interactions with 4-H youth. Attendees will explore strategies for providing feedback that supports learning, encourages growth, and promotes a positive fair experience for young exhibitors.
There is no cost to attend the workshop, thanks to the generosity of the Cerro Gordo, Hamilton, and Webster Counties Extension Councils.
Participants are asked to register at least one week prior to the workshop. Registration may be completed online at: https://go.iastate.edu/BZ4XZV or by contacting their local extension professional.
