Hamilton County Youths compete at 4-H State Shooting Competition
Hamilton County 4-H youths demonstrated outstanding skill and sportsmanship at the 2025 Iowa 4-H Safety and Education in Shooting Sports State Shooting Competition, held August 23 at Brownell’s Big Springs Shooting Complex in Searsboro. The event brought together over 130 youth from 22 counties across Iowa to compete in six shooting disciplines.
Hamilton County participants earned top honors in multiple categories:
Archery — Compound (Intermediate Division)
Cameron Camp — First Place
Lane Widick — Third Place
Archery — Genesis (Senior Division)
Keyla Gomez Alanis — Second Place
Shotgun (Intermediate Division)
Reed Larson — Second Place
Holden Jergens — Third Place
Participants competed in Junior (grades 4-6), Intermediate (grades 7-8), and Senior (grades 9-12) divisions across disciplines including archery (compound, recurve, Genesis), air rifle, shotgun, smallbore rifle, muzzleloader, and wildlife identification.
Top scorers from each discipline will be invited to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships, scheduled for June 21-26, 2026, in Grand Island, Nebraska.
The event was supported by sponsors including Brownell’s, the Iowa 4-H Foundation, and the Nebraska and Western Iowa VA Suicide Prevention Program, which donated 200 gun cable locks to promote safe gun storage and suicide prevention awareness.
