Kendall Young Library celebrates Library Card Month
Kendall Young Library will celebrate library card month. In the adult and teen departments, each new card or renewal will receive a KYL reward throughout the month. In the children’s department, each juvenile patron will receive a book with a new card or renewal.
Also in September:
Author Darcy Maulsby and Potluck — KYL patrons are invited to bring a favorite Iowa dish and join in a potluck and program by Author/Storyteller Darcy Maulsby on Monday, September 8, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Table service and drink will be provided and sign-up is suggested, but not required.
Flower Arranging with Tyler Burton — Thursday, September 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. KYL will host an event exploring the art of Flower Arranging. Tyler Burton from Peacock House Flowers will share tips and tricks to a beautiful arrangement. This is a free event; no sign up is required.
Haunted Iowa — Join KYL to walk through the world of Haunted Iowa on Saturday, September 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will explore Iowa ghost lore/legends/history. There will be hands-on demonstrations of paranormal equipment, discussing the science and theories behind equipment. Tarot readings in 10-minute sessions for $10. This program is free; no sign up is required.
Senior Puzzle Competition (age 55+) — This Tuesday, September 16, competition is great for puzzlers that want a little “less” competition, but still love a challenge. Teams of four will compete to finish their puzzle first. This event begins at 10:30 a.m. Call or register online. This event is free, but registration is required.

Adult Daytime Book Club — Join KYL for the September Book Club discussion of “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. Books are available at the adult checkout. The discussion meeting is on Tuesday, September 9, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Adult Evening Book Club — Join KYL for the September Evening Book Club discussion of “James” by Percival Everett. Books are available at the library. The discussion meeting is on Wednesday, September 10, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Books & Bourbon Silent Book Club — KYL and Wildcat Distilling Co. offer patrons a Silent Book Club. Gather at Wildcat Distilling Co., 626 Second Street, Webster City, on Thursday, September 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Bring a book, grab a drink, and enjoy an introvert happy hour.
Adult DIY — KYL will host an Adult DIY of Ghostly Pictures on Tuesday, September 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This event is free and does not require registration.
Fiber Arts Gathering — On Thursday, September 25, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the library will hosting a time to work on your favorite fiber arts project. There are patrons available who can help if you want to start learning how to crochet, but you are welcome to bring your own project to work on and socialize. All ages 16+ are invited to come and some supplies will be available. There is no registration required.
SPICE Club — KYL Spice of the Month Club will feature cumin beginning Friday, September 5. Samples will be available throughout the month while supplies last.
Put the Friends of Kendall Young Library Book Sale on your calendar:
Friends of Kendall Young Library Book Sale — The sale is Friday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m. until noon. This annual Fall Book Sale will have a wide collection of children’s and adult books along with DVDs and audiobooks.
The Book Place — The Friends of Kendall Young Library bookstore, THE BOOK PLACE, 914 Willson Avenue at the corner of Bank Street and Willson Avenue, offers a weekly place where patrons can purchase books. This shop is open Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
KYL will also host teen events in September:
Teen Lounge — Patrons in sixth to 12th grade are welcome each Tuesday in September from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to participate in weekly special activities, video games, snacks, crafts, and board games.
Homeschool TECH BUILD — Students can work on a Rubber Band Racer on Thursday, September 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. This is designed for youth in third to 12th grade; parent participation is encouraged.
KYL will also host children’s events in September:
Wild Things (TK-second) — Meets Tuesdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. for a variety of stories and activities.
Fuzzy Ducklings (under 3 years) — Meets Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This is a parent/child experience.
Tween’s Time (third – fifth grade) — Meets Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m. to explore crafts, STEM, and cooking.
Friday Cookies, Scoops & Books — Drop in at the children’s department on Fridays (September 5, 12, and 19) between 3 and 5 p.m. for an afternoon snack. This is a come-and-go event.
