‘Of Men and Cars’ auditions are December 29 and 30
Auditions for “Of Men and Cars” will be held Sunday, December 29, and Monday, December 30, at 6 p.m. Try-outs will be held at Webster City Community Theatre, 1001 Willson Avenue, Webster City, led by director Loween Getter.
Auditions will include readings from the script. Scripts will be available for three-day checkout at Kendall Young Library December 18-27.
The play is a semi-autobiographical tale covering 26 years in the life of the playwright Jim Geoghan. The story is based on the idea, “If you want to have an intimate conversation with a man, put him in a car and it better be a Ford. Dependable. Gets you home.” Both a comedy and drama, it is the story of Jim and his father, a WWII bomber pilot. Jim was amazed by his father when he was a child. Later, he wasn’t as amazed and told him so. As an adult, Jim realized he wasn’t so amazing himself. There is a happy ending.
There are major roles for two males to portray Jim and Dad. There are ensemble roles for at least two women and three men to play multiple roles:
— Mom, Anna, New York woman, Dorothy, girl next door, college girl, Los Angeles woman, saleswoman;
— Frankie Two Fingers, salesman, Warren, shrink, Montauk Man, Dominic, New York man, Jack, Russo, pot head;
