WCCT’s summer theatre camp is just around the corner, and there’s still time to register

There is still time for area youth to register for Webster City Community Theatre’s summer theatre camp.

The deadline is August 1.

WCCT is partnering with Coralville Center for the Performing Arts to bring “The Call of the Matterhorn” to its stage August 7-11. Registration is limited to 40 youth who will be 7 years of age by camp through those entering eighth grade this fall.

Footliters Traveling Playhouse is a new touring program of the Young Footliters Youth Theatre in Coralville. During the weeklong workshop, campers will audition, rehearse, and perform a musical alongside three professional teaching artists. They will be taught theatre skills such as projection, improvisation, creative problem solving, working together to tell a story, and also learn about the Alps and the mountain ecosystem.

The Footliters program is very similar to the successful workshops Old Creamery Theatre brought to WCCT 2013-2019. The Amana organization permanently closed in February 2022 during the pandemic. WCCT board members were pleased to learn that another theatre has picked up the mantle.

“The Call of the Matterhorn” is a new production with a script by Katie Colleta and original music by Jason Sifford. High above the foothills of the Swiss Alps, one snowy mountain towers above them all–a mountain only for the bravest of heart. The musical adventure is filled with magic, mystery, and tests of true character. The week culminates in two public performances on August 11 complete with costumes, props, makeup, sets, and songs. Each camper receives a role, script, and the support they need to shine.

Campers are expected to attend each day, Monday through Friday, from 9:30am to 1:30pm. They are required to bring a sack lunch and personal water bottle to each rehearsal.

Registration forms are available at the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce office or by contacting Loween Getter at 515-297-0846 or grandmaweengetter@gmail.com.

The non-refundable camper fee of $80 is due at the time of registration.
