Lucky Leprechaun Gnomes

Legacy Learning Boone River Valley is offering some opportunities to explore creativity during March with new workshops.

Learn to make Lucky Leprechaun Gnomes on Saturday, March 12 at 719 Seneca St., Webster City. Instructor Jen Berte will offer two sessions of the workshop. Participants can register to attend a morning session from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $20 and participants will get to take home two gnomes.

Berte will lead the fun for all ages, though smaller children will require adult assistance due to hot glue that is used to creating these lucky leprechaun gnomes with festive St. Patrick’s Day socks.

Artist and Instructor: Diane Blair Kunzler will lead a two-day workshop on Experimenting with Cold Wax Oil Painting on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday March 16 at the Hickory Cabin in Briggs Woods Park. The workshops will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. both nights.

A free meet and greet and artist slideshow will be held Monday, March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in on Monday evening and meet the artist and see her work, hearing about the possibilities of cold wax and paint with an emphasis on creating texture.

During the workshop, participants will play with layering, scraping and using a variety of materials to create textures. Diane demonstrates both abstract and reality-based works and guides the independent work of each participant. All supplies will be provided but if you have your own favorite paints, palette knives and brushes, bring them along.

The cost for the two-day workshop is $80.

Participants can also stay over in the Hickory Cabin; semi-private spaces are available for $45 per night. Reserve by calling 515-835-049, first come first served.
