The March 14 meeting of the Webster City Women’s Club will showcase a program “Dollies and Dishes” by Marilyn Middleton. She will have on display many of the popular dolls from the 1950’s and 1960’s from her collection, giving interesting details about each one. “The program will be filled with fond childhood memories,” said Middleton.

Her blonde ponytailed Barbie, purchased at Webster City’s Parkhurst Hardware in 1959, was the first year they were made. A list of fun facts will be shared about the most popular doll in the world. Chatty Cathy, Poor Pitiful Pearl and Tammy are still in their original boxes.

The speaker was born and raised in Webster City, graduated from Iowa State University. Middleton served as the Hamilton/Wright County ISU Extension Home Economist for twelve years. She retired from Southfield Wellness Community after serving as the Marketing Director for twelve years.

Members are invited to bring a guest and a favorite dolly.
