Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation's Allyson Ladd delivered PowerSnack teacher kits to Pleasant View Elementary, Webster City Middle School, and Sunset Heights Elementary. Power Snack Teacher Kits contain pork sticks and four Power Snack coupon booklets for each child containing a $5 coupon for deli ham and $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat bread-the ingredients for food-insecure students to make their own "Power Snacks" at home.

WEST DES MOINES –Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation are continuing to reduce childhood hunger in Iowa with the Power Snack™ program. This year, food insecure children across Iowa will receive Pork Sticks in addition to existing Power Snack coupons for deli ham and whole wheat bread. Between Nov. 11 and 22, Foundation volunteers and Iowa Select Farms employees will distributed 10,000 Pork Sticks and coupons for 1,000,000 ham sandwiches to 22,571 children at 125 schools.

“We are excited about the addition of Pork Sticks because they’ll serve as an immediate, nutritious resource for kids,” said Jen Sorenson, Communications Director of Iowa Select Farms. “They pack a powerful protein punch and can help students curb hunger and focus on learning.”

In Iowa, 1 in 5 children are considered food insecure.

The Pleasant View Elementary received 500 Power Snacks-a donation valued at $4,000 and enough resources to make 6,000 ham sandwich Power Snacks.

The Webster City Middle School received 1,200 Power Snacks-a donation valued at $9,600 and enough resources to make 14,400 ham sandwich Power Snacks.

The Sunset Heights Elementary received 700 Power Snacks-a donation valued at $5,600 and enough resources to make 8,400 ham sandwich Power Snacks.

Power Snack™ Teacher Kits contain 80 Pork Sticks and four Power Snack™ booklets for each child containing a $5 coupon for deli ham and a $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat bread–the ingredients needed to make their own “Power Snacks™” at home.

In total, 91,004 Power Snack™ deli ham and whole wheat bread coupon packs and 10,000 Pork Sticks, intended for distribution right before Thanksgiving, winter, spring and summer breaks.
