WCCT Readers Theatre to read original play, ‘The Gift of Thyme’

Local playwright Sally Evans to lead reading Sunday

Webster City Community Theatre will be holding a Reader’s Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. to read “The Gift of Thyme,” written by local playwright Sally Evans.

This short, one-act play has a holiday theme and is set in a small diner called “It’s About Thyme” several days before Christmas. The regulars, who are all retirement age, begin to talk about memories of their childhood Christmases; but there are holes in each story, things they can’t quite recall. During one of their regular afternoon gatherings, the local trooper stops in to tell them the weather has taken a sudden nasty turn, and it would be best if they just waited it out. With nothing to do but eat pie and visit, they once again talk of their favorite childhood Christmases. This time, however, the memories are not only intact, but contain additional information they had long since forgotten. Is it just the magic of the season or some other effect of the diner they call “Thyme?”

Sally Evans will be directing the reading. Please bring a snack to share and your own beverage.

This play has already been selected for production Dec. 11-15, 2019. There are parts for 4 men and 3 women, all retirement age in reality or with makeup. Auditions will be held Sunday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
