Stop the Bleed class offered at VDMC

Course designed for laypeople wishing to learn to control bleeding in emergency situations

Van Diest Medical Center has announced they will be hosting a free class entitled, Stop the Bleed. This class is intended for laypeople to learn the skills and basic tools necessary to stop uncontrolled bleeding in an emergency situation.

The training involves bleeding control principles so that civilians are able to provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders are able to assume the care of an injured person once on the scene. With the proper training and intervention, lives can be saved in these circumstances.

Presenters of the class are General Surgeon Dr. Gayette Grimm and Nurse Educator Vicki Roby.

This free class will be held Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. in the Clinic Board Room at Van Diest Medical Center. Those interested in participating may register by contacting Nurse Educator Vicki Roby at 515.832.7891 or via email at vroby@vandiestmc.org.
