WCPD investigate bomb threat

Officers respond to McDonalds; say nothing suspicious found

Webster City Police Officers responded to a report of a bomb left at a local restaurant late Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to McDonald’s Restaurant, 400 Fairmeadow Drive, shortly before 6 p.m. The reporting party told officers a subject had called the restaurant and stated a bomb had been placed in the building and was set to detonate at a specified time.

Police performed a walk through with the restaurant staff to determine if anything suspicious had been left in the building; nothing was found.

Police Chief Shiloh Mork said the management of the restaurant determined the threat was false and they returned to normal business at 6:23 p.m.

The Webster City Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Mork said the act of making a bomb threat is considered a violation of Iowa Code 712.7 and is a Class D Felony. A Class D Felony is punishable by a fine of no more than $7,500 and imprisonment of not longer than five years.
