Citizens Academy returns

Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Citizens Law Enforcement Academy.

Citizens candidates in good standing, residing in Hamilton or a surrounding county with an interest in their community, law enforcement and area peace officers are encouraged to apply. Academy training will begin Feb. 28, with trainings each Thursday through April 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. For information on specific times, dates and locations of the training, contact Hamilton County Peace Officer Association President Rod Hicok at 832-2516.

Hicok said the goals of the academy are to provide information on resources the state, county and city have to offer, provide insight on training and responsibilities of law enforcement officers, and to create relationships to make communities safer and to have fun in the process.

Trainers for the classes include local police officers, county sheriff deputies, correctional officers, motor vehicle enforcement officers, state troopers, conservation officers, special agents of the department of criminal investigations and the Hamilton County attorney.

Applications are available at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, or visit the Hamilton County Peace Officers Association of Iowa Facebook page for online information. Applications must be received by Feb. 25 at 4 p.m.
