NCC Honors

Three members of the Webster City volleyball team were named all-North Central Conference, the league announced recently.

Morgan Hackbarth made the first team for the Lynx, as Tristyn Wright was named to the second and Evie Davis earned honorable mention status.

“I was very happy to get three players as all-conference selections this year,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “There were a lot of great players within the North Central Conference this season, and for us to get three on the teams is great.”

Hackbarth, a senior, recorded 143 digs in seven league games, adding 13 assists, five kills and three aces. She successfully served 70 of 74 from the line.

Her total season stats included 446 digs, 39 assists, nine kills and 27 aces, serving 95 percent.

“Morgan was a great defensive player for us this year,” Howard said. “She did a great job of covering the court and making it very difficult for opposing teams to find an open spot.

“She led the NCC in digs per set this past season and was very deserving of a first team all-conference selection. Her serve receive was solid for us all season and she did a wonderful job of starting our offense with a strong pass and was a catalyst for us scoring points all season.”

Wright, a junior, tallied 84 kills, 71 digs, 31 assists, eight total blocks and four aces in NCC matches. She finished the year with 282 kills, 200 digs, 95 assists, 32 total blocks and 12 aces while serving 88 percent.

“Tristyn was an outstanding utility player,” Howard said. “She did a little bit of everything throughout the season. She was a go-to player for scoring points offensively and could attack from any position on the court. Her power and consistency are tough to compete against in our conference.

“She can hit around the block and kept defenses off balance with the speed of her attack. Tristyn is very deserving of a second team all-conference award.”

Davis, just a sophomore, had 47 kills and 34 total blocks, including 12 solos, in conference play. She had 125 total kills, 105 blocks and 19 digs, recording 30 solo blocks.

“Evie was a force at the net for us this year,” Howard said. “Her blocking scored 105 points for us this season and it slowed down many more for our defensive specialists to pass up. She progressed all season long offensively and really began to get a rhythm for running a fast offense and for seeing the court well to know what zones were open.

“Third team all-conference as a sophomore is a great accomplishment for Evie.”
