WC girls beat CGD, fall to Van Meter
So far into the summer season, the Webster City softball team has been having trouble finding a rhythm. In some games, they will hang tough, while struggling in other contests.
The Lynx dealt with the same issue this past weekend.
In their latest outings on the diamond, the purple and gold dominated Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in a North Central Conference matchup with a 12-2 final score last Friday at Lynx Field. This past Saturday, the Lynx received a 10-0 setback at the hands of Van Meter in the Paul and Mary Ann Graves Softball Classic in Perry.
With these results, Webster City moved to 2-8 overall with a 1-2 mark within league play.
At 7:30 p.m. tonight, the Lynx will host Humboldt for a conference matchup, before traveling north to take on Clear Lake in an NCC tilt in Clear Lake. Results from both games will be reported in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.
In the five-inning victory over the Cowgirls, junior Delainey Bargfrede hurled a gem by fanning 10 batters in five innings and allowed three hits. At bat, Bargfrede went two-for-two with two doubles.
Senior Livia Kasch tallied two RBIs on one double, as junior Bonnie Nohrenberg contributed with two RBIs. Sophomore Cloe Savitski and senior Trinity Griffith also collected one RBI for the winning cause.
Junior Addy Tesdahl, junior Ava Peterson and sophomore Breanna Bahrenfuss also had hits against CGD. Savitski stole three bags in the win, followed by two stolen bases from senior Chloe Andersen and junior Ellie Weinschenk.
Stats from the Van Meter game were not recorded, as of press time.
