Strong ending
After a proverbial endurance test of multiple ranked teams — both large and small — the Webster City baseball team had the opportunity to use that experience to their advantage.
The result? Winning two of three, and exacting revenge against a team that the Lynx had played earlier in the season.
In a North Central Conference matchup against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, held last Thursday at Lynx Field, Webster City overwhelmed the Cowboys with an 18-5 victory.
Taking part in a round robin, held last Saturday in Fonda, the purple and gold followed up the win with a 9-7 win over Newell-Fonda, and battled Don Bosco before falling in a 9-7 decision.
The Lynx’s Saturday morning win over the Mustangs avenged a loss earlier in the season, which went into extra innings. Webster City had also won three of their last four games, heading into the weekend.
Going into a new week of play, the Lynx remained undefeated in conference play at 3-0 and shifted to a record of 6-8.
Webster City entered the new week with a battle for early league supremacy, hosting Humboldt at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Lynx Field. The Wildcats come into Webster City with a 7-2 overall mark and 2-0 in conference play.
On Tuesday, the Lynx will welcome in Saydel for non-conference action, before going north to face Clear Lake in a NCC matchup.
Results from all three games will be reported in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.
