Lynx highlight All-NCC soccer selections
With the 2023 spring sports season in the rearview mirror, the Webster City soccer teams collected some accolades by way of all-conference selections.
In a recent release from the North Central Conference, the 2023 Boys’ Soccer All-Conference teams were full of Webster City representatives — headlined by junior Eduardo Perez, sophomore Eddy Fuentes Cruz, sophomore Conner Peck, senior Isaac Haule and freshman Magdiel Magdaleno.
Perez and Fuentes Cruz were unanimous All-NCC selections, while Peck also landed on the NCC’s first team. Haule and Magdaleno were second team selections.
Fuentes Cruz led the Lynx boys in soccer with 24 goals and 10 assists, while Perez — who served as one of Webster City’s captains — compiled 22 goals and seven assists over the course of the spring campaign.
Peck acquired three goals and two assists by season’s end, and proved a solid hand on the defensive side. Haule recorded two goals and an assist while working on the defensive front, while Magdaleno picked up two goals and 14 assists.
The Lynx enjoyed a fantastic campaign on the pitch, going 14-2 overall with a share of the conference crown with an 11-1 record. The purple and gold also collected a Class 2A substate championship and made their second appearance in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s State Soccer Tournament — their first since 2012.
Senior Abby Gallentine was the lone representative for the Webster City girls’ soccer team, earning second team recognition within the NCC. In 15 starts, Gallentine scored two goals and netted five assists.
The Lynx girls finished 5-12 overall with a 4-8 record within conference play. Webster City also upset Des Moines Hoover in the Class 2A regional quarterfinals, before their season came to an end against North Polk in the regional semifinals.
