Webster City boys win on the road

CLARION — The seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Webster City boys kept things tight atop the North Central Conference here Friday night, besting Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, 70-43.

The Lynx (13-1 overall, 7-1 in the NCC), Humboldt (12-2, 8-1) and Clear Lake (12-1, 7-1) all won on Friday. All three squads have just one loss each in the league.

Jaime Grossoehme scored a game-high 25 points to lead Webster City at C-G/D, while Ty McKinney and Briar Klaver each had 13. Grossoehme knocked down six more three-point baskets, upping his season total to 44. He added seven rebounds and seven assists.

McKinney dished out six assists without a turnover.

“The guys came out and dictated the tempo early in the game,” WCHS head coach Brett Ratcliff said. “We really shared the ball well. We made the extra pass to get good looks.

“On defense, our goal was to make every possession tough and I thought we did that early on.”

After being swept by the Cowboys last year, Webster City returned the favor in securing the 2022-23 sweep. The Lynx posted a 42-35 victory earlier this month over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, which tied for the league championship last season with Humboldt.

Webster City will return to league play on Monday at Hampton-Dumont/CAL before hosting Humboldt Friday night. The Lynx also have games with Clear Lake and Algona left on their NCC schedule.
