Cherry earns All-State honors

WEBSTER CITY — After another strong season on the ground, Webster City’s Jaxon Cherry was honored by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Cherry, who rushed for over 1,800 yards, was named to the Class 4A first team.

This past season, the junior led the Lynx into the playoffs, before losting to Iowa City Liberty in the first round.

Cherry ran for 1,804 yards on 216 carries and 31 touchdowns.

He led Class 4A in rushing touchdowns, rushing yards (1,804) all purpose yards (2,162).

He was tied for second in the state in rushing touchdowns.

He finished the season as the school’s single-season rushing TD leader with 31.

Cherry will return for his senior season as the school’s fifth-leading career rusher. The junior passed Jared Smith (2,734) on the list with 2,783. Fourth on the list is Kevin Kennedy (1968-70) with 3,207.

Cherry is second on the school’s all-time list with 51 TDs, just four behind leader Gavin Dinsdale.
