HUMBOLDT — The Webster City cross country squads saw their seasons come to an end on Wednesday at the Class 3A state-qualifying meet held at Sheldon Park in Humboldt.

The Lynx boys finished in 11th place in the team standings, with North Polk, Gilbert and MOC-Floyd Valley squads qualifying for the state meet to be held Oct. 29 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, as did the top 15 individual finishers.

For the girls, Webster City was only able to put three runners on the course and was unable to compete for team honors. Gilbert, Sioux City Bishop Heelan and MOC-Floyd Valley were the team qualifiers.

Seniors Emma Peck and Brayden Henely were the Lynx top finishers on the 5K course. Peck finished 53rd in the girls’ race won by Spencer sophomore Peyton More while Henely placed 38th on the boys’ side won by North Polk senior Zach Sporaa.

“It was a fantastic night of racing by both squads” said Lynx head coach Derek Turner. “Tons of PRs across the board on the boys’ side. I couldn’t be prouder of how everyone competed against some the premier teams in the state.

“This wraps up a great year for Webster City cross country, I’m thankful to have a great group of kids to work with and am looking forward to see how our underclassmen grow this next year and what lies ahead.”
