It was another masterful performance by Zach Dyvig and a season-ending victory for the Webster City baseball team here Friday night.

The Lynx handled Iowa Falls-Alden, 10-0 in five innings, completing another near-perfect North Central Conference run.

Webster City (20-7 overall, 13-1 in the NCC) had already secured its fourth consecutive league title with a win at St. Edmond earlier in the week, but Dyvig made sure they would keep momentum going into the postseason.

Up next for the Lynx will be Eagle Grove in a Class 3A substate contest at home on Friday night.

Dyvig struck out 12, including two in the fifth. He was honored alongside fellow senior Devon Stoakes prior to first pitch.

“It’s always nice to send seniors out on their very special, deserved night with a win,” WCHS head coach Adison Kehoe said. “We did the little things right.

“That being said, I told them the new season begins now so enjoy the weekend and come ready for military-camp baseball next week.”

Stoakes gave Webster City a 1-0 lead in the first when he plated Ty McKinney with a double, while CJ Hisler drove in Stoakes. One batter later, Dyvig scored Hisler with a sacrifice fly.

The Lynx added another run in the second on a homer by McKinney with two outs as Dyvig had eight strikeouts through three innings.

Dyvig made it 9-0 with a three-run homer in the fourth.

Both Dyvig and Stoakes will continue their playing careers at the collegiate level, as Dyvig is headed to Iowa Western and Stoakes to Iowa Central.

Webster City will carry a six-game win streak into the meeting with former league rival Eagle Grove. The Lynx have won each of the last four encounters with the Eagles, including an 11-1 victory earlier this year.

McKinney pitched the first two innings in that contest, with Stoakes tossing the final three with five strikeouts to earn the win.
