OMAHA — Webster City native Bruce Rasmussen, who served as the athletic director at Creighton University for 27 years prior to his retirement in August of 2021, will be inducted into the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022 in June.

The eight newest members will join the prestigious club in conjunction with the 57th annual NACDA & Affiliates Convention at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas on Monday, June 27.

Rasmussen took over as Creighton’s Director of Athletics on Aug. 1, 1994, and over his 21⁄2-plus decades in charge of the department Creighton rose to national prominence with its success inside and outside the lines of competition.

The Bluejays won 43 regular-season conference titles and 43 conference tournament titles during Rasmussen’s tenure, and he also engineered efforts to build new facilities for nearly every sports program through record-breaking fundraising campaigns.

Rasmussen fostered Creighton’s success in the Missouri Valley Conference, and he played a major role in the school’s entrance into the Big East Conference in March of 2013.

Creighton’s reputation as a top academic institution is reflected in the success the Bluejay student-athletes had across the board in the classroom during Rasmussen’s service. Student-athletes owned GPAs of 3.30 or above in each of the final 27 semesters he was the AD.

In 2019, Rasmussen became the first four-time Division I recipient of the Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year award — he also received the honor in 2004, 2010 and 2015 — and he also received the 2019 Gary Cunningham Lifetime Achievement Award from the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association.

In addition, he served a five-year term on the highly-esteemed NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Selection Committee and was the chairman in his final year in 2018.

After graduating high school in Webster City, Rasmussen attending Northern Iowa teachers college before snagging his first job at Murray High School in southern Iowa where he taught junior high and high school math in addition to numerous coaching duties.

Rasmussen’s mom, Norma Rasmussen, resides in Webster City, as do his brothers, George and Rick, and sister Kris Hale. Sister Marsha Kasemeier lives in Dubuque.

Joining Rasmussen in the 2022 Hall of Fame class are Jeff Bain of Martin Methodist College, Jim Fallis of the University of Northern Colorado, Brenda Hampton of Iowa Western Community College, Bill Hogan of Seattle University, Dennis Thomas of Hampton University, Charlie Titus of the University of Massachusetts Boston, and Kevin White of Duke University.

Starting at $3.46/week.
