Hawks’ sprint medley relay wins silver at state indoor
AMES — Six events, six top-10 finishes and one medal — all in all, a really solid performance for the South Hamilton girls’ track and field team at yesterday’s IATC Indoor Championships.
Competing in Class 2A, the Hawks’ sprint medley relay — Tanna Thompson, Makena Galetich, Kate Barkema and Ashlyn Erickson — picked up the silver medal behind Kinglsey-Pierson in a time of 1:59.01.
Erickson and Barkema collected top-10 individual results as well. Erickson finished fifth in a large 400 meters field with a clocking of 1:06.68. Barkema qualified seventh for the 60-meter finals and then improved with a sixth-place finish in 8.43 seconds.
Val Wagner added a ninth-place performance in the 800 (2:47.57).
Mackenzy Grady and Grace Neuberger led the Hawks’ field events. Grady placed fifth in the shot put (34 feet, 91⁄2 inches), while Neuberger was seventh in the high jump (4-10).
