Olson rips nets, Rams in Lynx victory

JEFFERSON — When Tyler Olson decides he’s going to be the best basketball player on the court, well, he usually is. And that’s precisely what Webster City needed here Tuesday night.

Looking to erase the bitter taste of a loss to St. Edmond just 24 hours earlier, the senior guard took it upon himself to put the Lynx on the right track in a 51-36 non-conference victory over Greene County. Olson scored six quick points in the first quarter, had 12 by the half and finished with a game-high 24. And, oh by the way, he also produced nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Decent.

“He did a little bit of everything,” WCHS head coach Marty McKinney said of Olson. “He came out attacking right from the get go and got us going. In every aspect of the game, he was really good.”

Olson received help inside the paint from Jamin Stuhr, who scored 11 points, yanked down six boards and joined Olson with five steals. Ty McKinney added eight points and four assists.

WCHS (2-2) turned it up defensively, particularly early and late. Greene County (0-6) was held scoreless in the first quarter and registered just three in the fourth. WCHS outscored the Rams 22-3 during those 16 minutes.

WCHS also limited Bryce Stalder, the Rams’ leading scorer, to just seven points. He entered the contest averaging nearly 16.

“In the first quarter, we did a lot of nice things,” Marty McKinney said. “Devon (Stoakes) did a really nice job on (Stalder) when he played him man-to-man, and Ty did a nice job when he guarded him in the second half.”

Jesse Miller led Greene County with nine points. Richard Daugherty chipped in eight more.

WCHS will be at Clear Lake on Friday.
