Lynx draw Mason City, Hawks get South Hardin in 2nd round

WEBSTER CITY — Following a week of rest, the Webster City and South Hamilton football teams learned Friday night who they will face in the second round of the postseason later this week.

Both teams received a first-round bye, and both will now face regular season rematches in the next contests.

Sixth-ranked (Class 3A) Webster City (7-0) will host District 2 rival Mason City (3-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. Mason City advanced with a come from behind 16-14 victory over Gilbert in the opening round. The Mohawks trailed 14-0 at halftime, but rallied over the final 24 minutes with a pair of touchdowns and a field goal.

WCHS and Mason City met during Week 5 of the regular season on Sept. 25, a clash in which the Lynx dominated, 42-7. Sophomore wingback CJ Hisler went off for a career-high 173 yards rushing, and all-state senior tailback Trey Mathis gouged the Mohawks for 164 yards on the ground.

Fourth-ranked (1A) South Hamilton (7-0) will also be at home on Friday, as it will welcome District 3 rival South Hardin (6-2) back to Taylor Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Hawks took care of South Hardin, 28-6, during Week 4 on Sept. 18. They rushed for 349 yards in the win, with halfbacks Trevor Thompson (174 yards) and Brock Galetich (105) doing the majority of the damage.
