ALLEMAN — Eighth-ranked (Class 3A) North Polk wasted no time in taking control of both ends of a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader against South Hamilton here Monday night, as the Comets rolled to a pair of run-rule shortened victories.

North Polk (8-1, 5-1 HOIC) exploded for seven first-inning runs in Game 1, which led to a 13-0, 5-inning win. In Game 2, the Comets circled the bases four times in their first at bat en route to an 11-0, 5-inning victory.

South Hamilton (2-5, 2-5 HOIC), which has dropped four straight contests, was limited to seven singles on the night — four hits in the opening game and three in the nightcap. North Polk, meanwhile, piled up 25 hits, four of which went for extra bases, in the two-game set.

Anna Lammers was on the hook for 15 hits and eight earned runs in Game 1, as South Hamilton’s defense committed five errors behind her. Lammers, Kaylee Oskvig, Kate Barkema and Tanna Thompson all had base hits in the opener.

Trisha Sporra, Ellie Owen, Sydney Anderson, Dillyn Adams and Hailey Steffen all had two hits for North Polk in Game 1. Owen, Sporra, Anderson, Adams and Chloe Dougherty had two RBIs each.

Anderson provided the big lumber in the nightcap, as she went 3 for 4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle. She turned on a Jessi Harms offering in the fifth and belted a three-run walk-off home run to left-center field.

Adams also had three hits and Owen collected two. Anderson drove in four runs.

Emma Lewis went 2 for 2, and Harms added one hit for South Hamilton in the Game 2 setback. Harms was responsible for 10 earned runs; she walked five and struck out two.

Dougherty earned both pitching wins for North Polk. She struck out eight in seven innings of work.

South Hamilton will be at home this evening to take on Prairie City-Monroe at 7:30 p.m.
