JEFFERSON — Hits continued to come in bunches on night No. 2 of the season for the South Hamilton baseball team here Wednesday night.

Just 48 hours after roasting PCM 17-4, the Hawks again reached double digits in a 10-4 win over Heart of Iowa Conference rival Greene County. They finished with 12 hits, all of them singles.

“The guys are seeing the ball well and they’re being aggressive and putting a good swing on it when they’re getting their pitch,” South Hamilton head coach Kyle Galetich said.

Brock Galetich, Quinton Grove and Tycin Barkema accounted for eight of the hits in the first three spots in the order. Galetich went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, Barkema also laced three hits, and Grove finished 2 for 4.

“Those three have been key to us scoring the runs we do, and they all saw a lot of pitches a year ago,” Galetich said. “But everybody is putting the ball in play.”

South Hamilton (2-0, 2-0 HOIC) scored two runs in the first and second innings, one in the third and four in the fourth to essentially put the game out of reach.

Lane Swenson, Freddie Lewis, Elijah Balderas and Brandyn Feighner all notched one hit. Cade Flaugh plated three runs, while Swenson, Lewis, Feighner and Carter Hewitt had one RBI each.

The run support made Balderas’ job on the hill much easier, and he put it on auto pilot. The sophomore took a perfect game into the fifth inning and went the distance to secure the win. Greene County mustered just three hits, and Balderas struck out seven.

“He threw well and we made some plays behind him,” Galetich said.

South Hamilton will make its 2020 home debut on Monday when it hosts Nevada at 7:30 p.m.
