DES MOINES — The South Hamilton volleyball team struggled at the net and behind the service line at times, but still did enough to power past Saydel in a Heart of Iowa Conference battle here Tuesday night.

The Hawks (13-12, 2-2 HOIC) swept the bout, 25-13, 27-25, 25-16, to keep Saydel (3-15, 0-6 HOIC) winless in the league.

Jessica Woodall accrued three service aces and pushed her season total to 59, the third-most in Class 2A, but South Hamilton piled up 13 service errors. Emily Greenfield and Kaylee Oskvig laced two aces each.

Inconsistencies on the attack also allowed Saydel to hang around. South Hamilton put together a .082 kill efficiency with 17 more miscues.

Hailey Cavan smacked 10 kills, while Hailey Diersen lashed seven. Woodall chipped in three more.

Emily Greenfield distributed 16 assists to go along with six digs, trailing only Kaylee Oskvig and her 11 digs.
