Lynx come up empty against No. 9 Crusaders, McKinney 2 hits

Klaver allows just 5 hits in losing effort

COON RAPIDS — Webster City out hit ninth-ranked (Class 1A) Coon Rapids-Bayard 6-5 here Tuesday night, but the Lynx were unable to string the knocks together in a non-conference setback.

The Crusaders (24-4) scored one run in the third inning to take the lead for good and added three insurance runs in the sixth en route to a 4-0 victory over the Lynx.

WCHS (17-9) dropped its second game in as many nights and was shutout for just the third time all season.

Trenton Golay drove in what turned out to be the winning run on an RBI single in the third inning. CR-B ripped three consecutive two-out hits in the sixth to push the lead to four runs.

Beau Klaver, the Lynx freshman pitcher, did his part by limiting the potent Crusader bats through five innings. He went the distance in a losing effort that also included two walks and two strikeouts.

Ty McKinney laced two hits for a second straight game to lead the WCHS offense. Dylan Steen, who took the night off defensively and handled the designated hitter duties, lashed a double. The Olson brothers, Tyler and Caleb, and Sean Carver all added one single.

WCHS was back on the road last night against Humboldt in a showdown that broke up a tie atop the North Central Conference standings.
