Olson strong again on mound, Lynx take out 2018 NCC champ Lions

Klaver erupts at plate with four hits, three RBIs in win

CLEAR LAKE — Beau Klaver had a breakout game at the plate, Caleb Olson showed off his power and Tyler Olson put together another solid outing on the mound for the Webster City baseball team here Monday night.

Add it all up and it was a giant step in the right direction in the Lynx North Central Conference opener.

WCHS (3-3, 1-0 NCC) scored in five of its seven at bats and racked up 11 hits to dispose of defending league champion Clear Lake, 8-2. With two runs in the opening inning and another in the third to build a 3-0 advantage, the Lynx never trailed.

Tyler Olson has been on the bump for all three of the Lynx victories this season. He’s now 3-0 with a 0.68 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 202⁄3 innings of work. He fanned eight Clear Lake batters and allowed just six hits.

Klaver, a freshman, roasted the ball for four hits in five plate appearances and collected three RBIs.

Caleb Olson delivered the most crushing blows. The WCHS clean-up hitter laced a double, left the yard for a home run and drove in four runs.

Tyler Olson added two singles, while Dylan Steen, CJ Hisler and Devon Stoakes all had one hit. Steen picked up an RBI.

Mac Adams took the loss on the bump for Clear Lake (1-5, 0-1 NCC), which has lost five consecutive games since a season-opening win over Charles City.

WCHS was at home last night to take on Saydel in non-conference play. It will be back at home this evening to take on Fort Dodge St. Edmond, followed by a Thursday road trip to Pocahontas Area.
