Swenson, Sogard and Harris all break 50 in Hawks’ win

JEWELL — A rare home meet yielded positive results for the South Hamilton girls’ golf team in lousy weather conditions Tuesday afternoon.

Despite cold temperatures and periodic rain, the Hawks fired a 193 at the Jewell Golf and Country Club to easily roll past non-conference opponent Ballard, which posted a 230.

“It was good to finally be able to play a home meet,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. “Our team continues to show improvement. (On Monday) in practice we really worked on our short game and (Tuesday) the girls reaped the benefits. They recorded several up and downs and a chip-in. It was fun to see the practice transition into our meets.”

Krista Swenson led South Hamilton and collected the medalist honor with a 44, five shots in front of teammates Katelyn Sogard and Cortney Harris, who both shot 49. Sogard was awarded the runner-up medal on a card-back. Miranda Deppe wasn’t far behind with a 51.

Megan Hadaway was the low player for Ballard with a 53.
