LYNX BOYS BLANK ‘CATS: Isaac Bernard scored two goals in his final match at Lynx Field, as he led the Webster City boys’ soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Humboldt yesterday evening in Webster City.
Jorge Alvayero fed Bernard a through ball in the 20th minute to stake WCHS (10-7) to a 1-0 halftime lead.
“We played probably the best 40 minutes to start (a match),” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “They pushed numbers and we gave up a couple opportunities, but I was impressed with how we played. We needed a win and more importantly we needed to play well and we did.”
Bernard scored in the 72nd minute — his 17th goal of the season — off an assist by Jackson Moberly.
WCHS and Humboldt (7-9) both put eight shots on frame and took five corner kicks.
LYNX GIRLS FALL TO BOONE: Two goals in the final minute broke a 1-1 tie and gave Boone a 3-1 girls’ soccer victory over Webster City last night in Boone.
Isabella Dubon rifled in the go-ahead goal with one minute remaining and then tacked on another goal just 24 seconds later.
The Toreadors (3-14) led 1-0 at the half. WCHS (2-9) answered in the 66th minute on a Leah Kasch goal.
