Whitehill to play softball at Iowa Central
WEBSTER CITY — Cynthia Whitehill, a senior at Webster City High School, will continue her education and athletic career at Iowa Central Community College in the fall.
Whitehill signed to join the Tritons’ softball program last week. On hand for the signing were WCHS head coach Jess Howard and assistant coach Brad Van Deer, as well as Iowa Central head coach Rick Sandquist and assistant coach Bo Tjebben.
A three-year starter for the Lynx, Whitehill’s primary position is behind the plate as a catcher, but she’s versatile enough to play the infield as well. She’s thrown out 14 base runners attempting to steal during her time in Howard’s program.
At the plate, Whitehill is a career .250 hitter with eight doubles, six home runs and 31 RBIs. She has cranked two dingers in each of the past three seasons.
Whitehill’s most productive year at the plate was during her freshman season in 2016 when she hit .277 and drove in 13 runs.
One former WCHS player currently plays for Sandquist at Iowa Central. Erin Bahrenfuss, a sophomore, pitches for the Tritons.
