DES MOINES — Conner Hill would have liked to have been in uniform when he stepped onto the court inside Wells Fargo Arena one final time Friday evening, but the smile on his face showed that he was content with what he was able to accomplish.

Following a three-game stretch that will long be remembered in South Hamilton lore, the Hawks’ senior point guard was named to the Class 2A all-tournament team following the state championship game. He was the only member of the five-player team that didn’t play in the title game.

“It’s quite an honor,” Hill said after receiving his medal and certificate at center court. “Coming down here, I never had the intention of making the all-tournament team. I just wanted to come down here and win some games, but it shows the respect the state and everyone had for me. They really appreciated my performance this tournament.”

Hill was joined on the all-tournament team by North Linn’s Jake Hilmer and Trevor Boge, and Boyden-Hull’s Beau De Jongh and Keyton Moser. Hilmer was named the captain after he led the Lynx to the championship over Boyden-Hull, 60-41.

In three games, Hill averaged 22 points per game, second in the class behind only Hilmer (26.7).

Hill poured in 22 points in South Hamilton’s 73-61 quarterfinal win over Rock Valley and then went off for 29 in a 62-59 semifinal loss to Boyden-Hull. He capped his prep career with a 15-point, six-rebound, three-assists and two-steal performance in a 54-52 win over Van Meter in the third-place game on Thursday.

Hill shot 50 percent overall (23 of 46) and from behind the 3-point arc (6 of 12) in the tournament. At the free throw line, he knocked down shots at an 88 percent clip (14 of 16).
