STORY CITY — Helped by a heavy dose of forfeits, the South Hamilton wrestling team was able to pick up one dual victory here last night.

The Hawks accumulated 36 free points and also received a victory on the mat by sophomore Lane Swenson to topple Heart of Iowa Conference rival Saydel, 42-33.

South Hamilton dropped its final two duals, first to conference foe Roland-Story, 45-33, and then to Colfax-Mingo, 56-21.

Of the team’s 17 wins on the night, 11 came by way of the forfeit.

Swenson, one of only two grapplers to get three matches, put together a productive night with three statement wins. Competing at 152 and 160 pounds, he decked Saydel’s Austin Pyles in 1:39 and Colfax-Mingo’s Josh Smith in 2:13. Sandwiched in between was a hard-fought 7-5 decision over Roland-Story’s Eli Thorson up at the bigger weight class.

Sheldon Tapper (160), Ethan Young (170) and Nathan Wilson (182) all seized victories on the mat as well.

Tapper rolled to a 7-2 decision over the Tigerhawks’ Skyler Alkin in the nightcap dual. Two matches later, Wilson wasted no time in flattening Chloe Forck for the fall in just 10 seconds.

Earlier in the night, Young pinned Roland-Story’s Jon Sobotka in 1:34.

Connor Caudle (138), Trevor Thompson (195) and Zach Larson (285) were the recipients of two forfeit wins for South Hamilton. Justin Wilson (132), Jose Galdeano (145), Young, Wilson and Colton Willis (220) all had one.

The Hawks will head north to the Central Springs Round-Robin Tournament on Saturday.
