WEBSTER CITY — South Hamilton’s first regular season loss in nearly 23 months cost it three spots in the latest Associated Press Class 2A boys’ basketball poll.

Following a 70-65 loss to seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Gilbert on Friday, the Hawks (7-1) dipped from fifth to eighth in Class 2A in the new poll, which was released Monday afternoon. South Hamilton received 37 voting points from the statewide panel of media members.

The loss snapped South Hamilton’s 33-game regular season win streak, a span that reached 686 days.

North Linn remained at the top of the 2A rankings with eight of the 11 first-place votes. Second-ranked Treynor received two first-place votes, with No. 3 Western Christian picking up one. The remainder of the 2A top 10 includes Camanche at No. 4, Van Meter at No.5, West Sioux at No. 6, Boyden-Hull at No. 7, West Branch at No. 9, and Unity Christian at No. 10.

Gilbert slipped one spot in the 3A poll. The Tigers lost for the first time to sixth-ranked ADM one night after their win over South Hamilton.

The other top-ranked teams are Waukee (4A), Oskaloosa (3A) and Grand View Christian (1A).

Waukee moved into the No. 1 position in the largest class following previously top-ranked Iowa City West’s first loss of the season to Linn-Mar last week. The Trojans fell to No. 5.

Oskaloosa and Grand View Christian were both No. 1 in the first poll of the season last week.

North Central Conference leader Clear Lake remained at No. 5 in 3A. Humboldt was among the 3A teams receiving votes.
