Hawks the runner-up at CGD Invite, now 11-2 on season

CLARION — The South Hamilton volleyball team picked up five more wins and placed second at the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Invite here on Saturday.

The Hawks earned 2-0 sweeps over Belmond-Klemme (21-7, 21-1), Eagle Grove (21-8, 21-7) and North Butler (21-9, 21-15), and then claimed 2-1 wins over Harris-Lake Park (21-19, 22-24, 15-13) and Clear Lake (12-21, 21-11, 17-15). Their lone loss was to tournament champion and host CGD, 2-0 (21-15, 21-19).

Four players finished the day with double-digit kill totals, led by Breanne Diersen with 22. Hailey Cavan hammered 21, Sydney Friest finished with 16 and Lily Skartvedt added 15.

Taylor Volkmann handled the majority of the setting duties and distributed 64 assists.

Defensively, Skartvedt paced South Hamilton (11-2) with 32 digs. Cavan collected 27, libero Leah Jacoby had 18, Diersen 16, Friest 14, Volkmann 13 and Emily Greenfield 10.

The Hawks will return home to take on South Hardin Tuesday night.
