Hackbarth, Martinez and Steen snag Class 3A 1st-team all-district awards

WEBSTER CITY — Seniors Max Hackbarth and Romel Martinez, and junior Dylan Steen all represented the Webster City baseball team on the Class 3A all-district first team, it was announced on Monday.

Hackbarth was named to the top team in the Central District as a pitcher. Martinez was the first-team shortstop, while Steen made the cut as a utility player after excelling as both a pitcher and outfielder.

Nine schools were represented on the Central District first team. Webster City, Grinnell and Pella led the way with three each. Saydel had two selections.

Hackbarth, a 2017 first-team all-state hurler in 3A, went 4-2 with a 1.35 ERA during his final season in a Lynx uniform. The hard-throwing southpaw fanned 91 batters and held opponents to a .127 batting average.

Steen went 8-0 on the mound with a 1.70 ERA and 84 strikeouts. A centerfielder when he wasn’t on the hill, he also hit at a .419 clip with 29 RBIs, both team-highs.

Martinez, a wizard with the glove, hit .408 at the top of the Lynx lineup. He cranked out nine doubles, two triples and one home run, to go along with 25 runs scored.
