Flaws, Grubb all-district softball picks
WEBSTER CITY — Webster City senior outfielder Haley Flaws and South Hamilton senior infielder Marla Grubb have both been named to all-district softball teams in their respective classes, it was announced on Saturday.
Flaws is a member of the Class 4A West District squad, while Grubb is on the 2A Northeast District team.
A two-time first-team all-North Central Conference selection, Flaws was the backbone for a WCHS team that finished the campaign at 16-15, the program’s first winning record since 2013. A speedster that hits from the left side, she put together a .463 batting average with 50 base knocks and 38 runs scored. Flaws stole 38 bases — she was thrown out just once — which places her third in the class.
Grubb was one of the offensive catalysts for a South Hamilton club that concluded the season at 11-16 overall. The Hawks fell to state tournament qualifier Earlham in a regional contest.
Grubb batted .402, the second-best average on the team, with two home runs and 16 RBIs. She concluded the season with 33 hits, six of which were doubles.
A versatile player, Grubb spent time playing at both third base and behind the plate for the Hawks.
