WCHS girls sharp, sweep H-D and improve to 3-0 on season

HAMPTON – Facing Hampton-Dumont for the second time in three days, the Webster City girls’ tennis team showed significant improvement and ran its dual-meet record to 3-0 here on Monday.

It was a sweep across the board, as the Lynx held the upper-hand throughout in a 9-0 victory.

“I don’t think the night could have gone any better,” WCHS head coach Erica Munkel said, noting her club topped the Bulldogs 6-3 last Friday. “We played extremely well. There was lots of great technique and placement.”

There were a couple of rallies, too.

Megan Parkhill got down early before catching fire to handle Shaylin Beyer, 10-8, in the No. 4 singles match. The Lynx duo of Parkhill and Jayden Mathis fought back from a deficit to beat Beyer and Caitlyn Freese, 10-8.

Sierra Anderson turned in the quickest singles win – a 10-1 rout of Freese. Nos. 1 and 2 players Courtney Lampman and Rihanna Wood were 10-6 and 10-4 winners, respectively. Mathis received a forfeit at No. 6.

Lampman and Wood, as well as Anderson and Erin Larson teamed up for doubles wins.

WCHS junior varsity players Megan Nilles and Izzy Hooker were singles winners. Grace Hoffman and Kim Calles picked up a doubles victory.
