Nathan Sogard added a 40 for the Hawks and Jared Ullestad penciled in a 43. Landon Quam closed out the scoring with a 46.

Both teams will be at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City on Tuesday for the Heart of Iowa Conference tournament. Play will get underway at 9 a.m.

PREP BRIEFS

LYNX ELLIOTT MEDALIST: A second consecutive solid round put Webster City’s Taylor Elliott in the medalist position at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Iowa Falls on Monday.

Elliott’s 49 was the low-round of the day, as she helped Webster City shoot a 245 in a triangular. CMB (228) placed first; Iowa Falls-Alden didn’t have enough players to factor into the team race.

Keni Geis (59), Emma Bailey (68) and Hayley Koeppen (69) also factored into the Lynx team total.

SH GIRLS STRUGGLE, WIN: A frustrating night on the links didn’t end up costing the South Hamilton girls’ golf team a dual win Monday at the Jewell Golf and Country Club.

“Our score was way above our average,” South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said. “We just didn’t play well at all.”

“A 172 isn’t the best score, but it’s tough if you haven’t played over there before” South Hamilton head coach Mark Ullestad said.

PREP BRIEFS

LYNX GIRLS SOCCER FALLS: Playing with a patchwork lineup due to the absence of several starters, the Webster City girls’ soccer team remained competitive throughout in Garner on Tuesday.

The Lynx rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, but couldn’t pull back to even a third time. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura posted the winning goal with just under 16 minutes remaining and held on to claim the victory, 3-2.

“The girls came out and played hard,” WCHS head coach Paul Baedke said after his club dipped to 1-3 on the season. “We gave up a silly goal right away at the start and it would have been easy to fold, but the girls stayed after it and got back in the game. We’ve just got to get ahead and I think we’ll be OK because fighting from behind always makes it a little tough.”

Sophomore forward Sarah Vogelbacher pocketed both Lynx goals. She slammed the ball into the net off a feed from Thatianna Vangkham in the 19th minute and got loose for another score courtesy of a Kennedy Daniels assist in the 61st minute.

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (2-1) got off 15 shots on goal. Lynx goalkeeper Maia Jaycox made 12 saves.

WCHS will hit the road to face CAL/Hampton-Dumont on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

PETERS MEDALIST, SH BOYS WIN TRIANGULAR: Playing just his second competitive round ever, first-year South Hamilton boys’ golfer Luke Peters make a quick climb to the top of the leaderboard.

Peters was the most consistent player at Oakridge Golf Course in Goldfield on Tuesday, as he fired a 41 on the par-36 layout to grab the medalist honor and lead the Hawks to a triangular victory.

“I was happy to see Luke play well,” South Hamilton head coach Mark Ullestad said. “That’s a pretty good score for his first year out.”

South Hamilton’s winning total of 175 was still higher than what Ullestad envisioned, but it was more than good enough to top Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (191) and Eagle Grove (201).

“Yeah, the scores are too high,” Ullestad said. “We just can’t seem to get our experienced guys to play better golf. But we’ll go back to work.”

Colton Coy and Nathan Sogard both posted rounds of 44 and Landon Quam added a 46.

Will Weidemann of CGD was the meet runner-up with a 43.
